The Ethiopian Student Association of Texas, better know as ESAT, is an organization started by Nahom Minassie Beyene. ESAT is pronounced ih-saht , and it is a word that means fire in an Ethiopian language called Amharic. This name symbolizes a burning desire from within to learn the culture and traditions of our awesome country, Ethiopia. Nahom felt the need to develop this organization after joining the Ethiopian Students Association International (ESAi). Through participating in ESAi, he has been appointed to serve as the Teams Coordinator on the Executive Board. Nahom was also selected to serve as the Texas Representative of ESAi and then president. Now, he serves on the Board of Directors for ESAi as an advisor.
ESAT is founded upon two sets of ideals; The first set states that ESAT follows the rules of ESA International and the second set requires that ESAT works to support the ideals found in Nahom's paper, "A Vision for the Future."

members must show respect for each other
increase communication, network, & unity in the Ethiopian Community
promote cultural pride in the youth
bring forth a better image and reputation for Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Communities of the world

ESAT Mission:
The mission of the Ethiopian Students Association of Texas is to assist Ethiopian Students in forming Ethiopian Student Assocations that will follow the ideals of our organization.
All efforts of the Ethiopian Students Association of Texas will be performed with the theme of "Empowering the Youths of the Ethiopian Community."
ESAT Goals:
With the support of the Ethiopian Communities in Texas, ESAT will have a great impact on the future of Ethiopians everywhere. The way that this will happen is by developing programs that will support the ideals stated at first in bullet form. The following is just a brief list of some goals and ideas that ESAT hopes to support in the future.

~ESAT funded academic and athletic scholarships for Ethiopian Students
ESAT Structure:
There are two levels at which chapters may be formed: university/college & community. (Please use the navigator column above to view the ESAT Structure Diagram after reviewing the description below.)
University/College: Students form a cultural association to be officially registered at their college or university. When a constitution is developed, ESAT will review and approve the constitution or request for ammendments. The students will elect their officers according to the process in their constitution.
Community: Students who have not entered a university or college will assemble under a community Ethiopian Student Association. Parental Committees of ESAT will be charged with the guidance of community activities and events. The leadership of the community Ethiopian Student Association lies with the Students. They will elect their officers and develop their constitutions under parental supervision and ESAT guidelines.
