Purpose:  The Abesha Cultural Organization was formed primarily to unite the Ethiopian and Eritrean students at The University of Texas at Austin.  ACO is also open to any friends who want to learn of our countries.  Through this organization, we hope to build friendships, a group of support, and an appreciation for the culture and traditions of Ethiopia and Eritrea within the Austin and UT communities.

Plans:  ACO will begin scheduled meetings during the Spring and Fall 2001 semesters.  As the organization establishes itself, we hope to participate in a variety of cultural events including International Week at UT.  Other events that we are considering include:

~Culture Fest: an exhibition of all that represents Ethiopia and Eritrea

~Fashion Show/Cultural Dance:  presentation of our fashion and a party set to our ethnic beats

~ACO Fall & Spring Banquet:  a time for all members and officers to enjoy a great meal together and possibly some awards for outstanding service to ACO

~Discussion Forums:  a chance for us to discuss issues we face as students and abeshas

~"Tibs" night:  spontaneous member dinners for study breaks and a little bit of that good food!  (Can also become "Shiro" night!  depends on the groups mood)
